Clive, who was actively managing the update editing of the Howard & Moore Complete Checklist of Birds of the World in respect of African taxa suffered a severe stroke in early July while in hospital. Initially it seemed he might recover and he was moved to Charing Cross Hospital, but a few further strokes followed and the doctors felt recovery would be impossible and he died in the palliative care ward on August 24th. His funeral was on September 23rd. He leaves a son Konrad and a daughter Dominika, as well as his partner Anya. He is already missed by his many friends in ornithology and he will be long remembered.
